Preparing a marine automation service enquiry
Marine automation systems connect equipment, controls and operator interfaces across a vessel. When requesting service support, a concise description of the affected system and observed issue helps the team understand the scope and ask useful follow-up questions.
Identify the system and equipment
Share the vessel name and location, the automation system or subsystem involved, and the equipment manufacturer, model and serial number where available. A clear photo of the equipment nameplate can help confirm the reference.
Describe what you observe
Explain what the system was doing, what changed, when the issue began and whether it is continuous or intermittent. Include alarm text or codes exactly as shown, along with the time they appeared if known. Avoid interpreting the cause unless it has already been confirmed by your technical team.
Include relevant records
Attach available drawings, system architecture documents, alarm logs, maintenance history or screenshots that relate to the reported scope. Identify the document revision where known and remove unrelated confidential information before sharing.
Set out the operating context
Note whether the equipment is in service, isolated, under planned maintenance or awaiting inspection. Include access constraints, preferred attendance window and any vessel or yard coordination requirements. Follow the vessel's established procedures and responsible technical authority for operational decisions.
Separate confirmed facts from open questions
Mark which observations are verified and which details still need checking. This helps prevent assumptions from becoming part of the service scope.
